Station - Instructions for candidate
You are a medical student on placement in the Emergency Department of a Perth metropolitan hospital.
Tayla Mabuza, a 17-year-old student, was brought to the Emergency Department by her mother. She has pain in the wrist after a fall 45 minutes ago. Initial imaging has been done and the triage nurse has taken her observations. You have been asked to assess the injury.
Wrist X-rays (three standard views)
No break is visible on these views. The bones are normally aligned. No other bony abnormality detected.
Your tasks are to:
- Take a focused history.
- Perform a focused examination.
- Request any relevant investigations and interpret the results provided.
- Summarise your findings to the examiner with your most likely diagnosis, your differential diagnoses and your initial management plan.
- Please verbalise your examination to the examiner; findings will be provided on request.
