Station - Instructions for candidate
You are an intern working in the Emergency Department of a metropolitan hospital in Perth. It is 10.30 pm.
Jun Lim, a 19-year-old university student, was brought to the Emergency Department by ambulance at 9.30 pm after taking an overdose of tablets at home this evening. It is now 10.30 pm. He is alert and nauseated but otherwise well. His sister is in the waiting room and his parents are on their way.
Your tasks are to:
- Take a focused history.
- Perform a focused examination.
- Request any relevant investigations and interpret the results provided.
- Summarise your findings to the examiner with your most likely diagnosis and differential diagnoses.
- Outline your initial management plan to the examiner.
- Please verbalise your examination to the examiner; findings will be provided on request.
- You do not need to write prescriptions or medication orders.
This is a 15-minute station, with 2 minutes of reading time.
