Station - Instructions for candidate

You are a fourth-year medical student on placement at a general practice in Kalamunda.

Ben Hooper, a 40-year-old landscaper, has come in four days after a visit to the Emergency Department for a severe allergic reaction to a wasp sting. He was discharged with an adrenaline autoinjector and told to see his GP. He has brought the device and the discharge letter.

Your tasks are to:

  1. Take a focused history.
  2. Counsel Mr Hooper about his adrenaline autoinjector.
  3. Discuss your management plan with Mr Hooper.
  • A trainer autoinjector device is available for demonstration.
  • You do NOT need to examine the patient.
  • You do NOT need to summarise your findings to the examiner.

This is a 10-minute station, with 2 minutes of reading time.
