External Inspection

Inspect vulva for any abnormalities
Check vaginal opening
Locate urethral opening
Check for signs of prolapse
Ask patient to cough to check for stress incontinence

Bimanual Examination

Lubricate examining fingers
Gently insert index and middle fingers into vagina
Assess cervix

Check position, consistency, and for any cervical motion tenderness

Assess uterus

Check size, shape, position, and for any masses or tenderness

Assess adnexa

Check for masses or tenderness in the areas of the ovaries and fallopian tubes

Withdraw fingers and inspect glove

Check for any abnormal discharge or blood

Conclusion

Cover patient and provide privacy to clean up and dress
Summarize findings
Suggest further tests if needed
