Introduction

Greetings
Hand wash
Verify the patient's identity using at least two or three details
Explanation
Consent
Ask for chaperone

Exposure and positioning

Have the curtain drawn
Observation while movement while sitting
Hand on laps
Hand on hips
Hand on head
Hand on hip again and lean forward with pectorals contracted
Lie patient supine with ipsilateral arm stretched
Cover the breast that is not being examined

Inspection

Comment on symmetry
Comment on any obvious lumps, swelling, erythema, changes in contour
Nipple changes
Inverted, retracted, inflamed / erythema, differences between two
Look for discharge / (optional) ask for patient to gently squeeze their nipple for discharge
Comment on any other skin changes (Skin puckering/dimpling, Nipple ulceration or nodules, Note any peau d'orange)
(Optional / not in guide) Raise breasts with back of your hand to observe below

Palpation

Palate the breasts systematically (cover all 4 quadrants in your own way)
Palate axillary tail
Palpate nipple
Describe lumps (if any)

Lymph nodes

Supraclavicular
Cervical
Axillary
Fossae nodes
Palpate breasts/bimanual
